Believe it or not, I'm relieved that with college comes leaving some people in the past.
School tomorrow, YAY, except I haven't finished my art homework. I wasn't going to do it, but then I started doodling and got inspired, so I went ahead and started a piece. But I probably won't finish TWO pieces by tomorrow. I'll have to wing it. Errrrr.
ANYWAYZ
Got this book called "The Summoning" by Kelley Armstrong (?). It's pretty good so far, though I've only gotten to page 11. What I get from the plot summary is that it's about a girl who sees ghosts, but no one believes her so she gets put in this teen mental institute-house-thing? And then it just says: "But the house is not what it seems..." and I really don't know what that's supposed to mean.
Yeah, I've been trying to get back into reading as a hobby again.... I think AP English courses have destroyed my extracurricular love for reading. Seriously. All those BORING books we have to read in there....ugh. Sure, they're classics, but I don't understand WHY they're classics if they suck so bad. But anyway, I went to the library yesterday a little bit and searched through the whole young adult section until I found a book that seemed somewhat interesting.
It's just really frustrating that about 2/3 of the selection is made up of lame girlygirl books that just scream "middle school". Stuff about 'the cheerleader who has an apparently suckish life but still manages to be spoiled by her parents and loved by all the cute jock boys' and 'nerdy chicks wanting to be prom queens', etc. AHHHH! Where's the originality? Authors -- do you really think 18-year-olds want to read that stuff? I was so looking for a book more along the lines of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. I read that last year and it was so good. It was creative! And it definitely had that aspect of "infiniteness" that YA readers look for. I can't quite describe it. (BUT the movie sucks compared to the book, just so you know)
ANYWAY
Just a note to YA authors out there...please, no more 'chick-flick' and Jennifer Aniston rom-com style books, k? Start creating some characters with authenticity...please!
